Week 23 River Systems

1) Erosion

1)               Movement of sediment by wind, water, ice, or gravity.

2) Weathering

1)               Process by which water, wind, and ice wear down rocks and other surfaces.

3) Deposition

process by which wind, water, and gravity leave sediments in new locations.

4) Delta

         A fan shaped (triangular) sediment deposit formed at the mouth of a river flowing into a larger body of water

5) Alluvial Fan A cone-shaped mass of sediment deposited as the flow of a river decreases in velocity. 
6) Meander

        A winding curve or bend of a river or road

7) Water Shed

1)                An area of land that drains water from higher land to lower land and into a stream. 

8) Tributary

1)          A stream or river that flows into a larger stream or river or a lake.

9) Channel

1)              A length of water wider than a strait, joining two larger areas of water, especially two seas.

10) Bank

1)             The land alongside or sloping down to a river or lake
