Week 15 Vocabulary
1) Mineral

Naturally occurring inorganic solid that has a definite chemical compositions and an orderly internal atomic structure.

2) Rock

Any naturally occurring substance, generally composed of minerals.

3) Igneous Rocks formed by hardening of melted earth.
4) Metamorphic Rocks that have been changed by extreme heat and pressure.
5) Sedimentary Forms when sediments are compacted and cemented together or when minerals come out of solution or are left behind by evaporation.
6) Magma Melted rock material beneath the Earth’s surface.
7) Lava Melted rock coming from the ground and flowing on the surface of the Earth.
8) Surface Tension Attractive forces on the surface of a liquid that pull themselves together and resist being pushed apart.
9) Weathering When a larger rock is broken apart by wind, water, ice, or gravity and forms smaller pieces of rock.
10) Erosion Movement of sediment from one place to another by wind, water, gravity, or ice.
