Week 8 Vocabulary
1) Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space.
2) Atom Smallest particle onto which an element can be divided and still have the properties of that element.
3) Nucleus Center of an atom made up of protons and neutrons.
4) Proton Positively charged particle located in the nucleus of an atom.
5) Neutron One of two particles that make up the nucleus of an atom. It has no electric charge (neutral).
6) Electron Negatively charged particle found outside the nucleus of an atom.
7) States of Matter A grouping of substances based on how fast the particles move and how strong the attraction is between particles. (solid, liquid, gas)
8) Solid Matter that has definite shape and volume, such as a rock.
9) Liquid Matter that can flow and change its shape. When poured into a container, it takes the shape of the container, but its volume remains the same. (Definite volume, no definite shape)
10) Gas Matter with no special shape or size. It takes up the size and shape of any container that holds it. (no definite volume, no definite shape)
